British Columbia Premier John Horgan announced on Wednesday that his government would hire up to 500 additional health professionals to increase contact tracing in the province.
Horgan made the announcement alongside the provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
The announcement comes at a time when the province has experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases and is preparing for a potential second wave of infections.
“We want to make sure people are kept safe in any COVID-19 outbreak and one of the ways to do that is through strong contact tracing,” Horgan said.
Henry said contact tracing was the “bread and butter” work necessary to mitigate the spread of the virus.
