Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw provided an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province Monday and discussed the provincial government's ongoing response to the pandemic.
The province's top doctor announced Monday that the Alberta government was changing its distribution process for personal protective equipment like masks, gloves and gowns to prioritize workers at the highest risk of exposure to COVID-19.
Hinshaw said the government will continue to ensure publicly funded or contracted settings have PPE at no extra cost.
For those who don’t have other sources in the short-term, private organizations and companies can access PPE through the government until June 30, but will have to pay fair market price for it. After June 30, they must get PPE from their own suppliers.
Since the pandemic began 138 Albertans have died of COVID-19.
