Alberta Premier Jason Kenney confirmed 117 new cases of COVID-19 in the province over the last 24 hours, due to the release of information from a large number of backlogged tests conducted by health officials.
Kenney said Wednesday the backlog developed because of a shortage in reagents, an essential element in the testing.
The premier said the province will be receiving new rapid testing kits within days, which will expand the province’s testing capacity by thousands of tests per day.
Kenney also lauded Alberta’s truck drivers who he said have been working “around the clock” to provide essential products, adding “without whom our supply lines would be compromised.”
