Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirmed 96 new cases of COVID-19 during a daily update on Thursday, bringing the provincial total to 968.
She also announced that the province’s death toll reached 13, with two deaths reported since Wednesday.
One individual was a resident of the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary, where there were 65 cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday. The second individual was a man in his 80s in the North Zone.
As of Thursday, there were nine outbreaks declared at continuing care facilities. Hinshaw said that she has implemented enhanced cleaning, screening, visitation rules, and protocols that are enforceable by law to combat the spread of the virus.
