British Columbia's provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix provided an update on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province, and discussed the government's ongoing response to the pandemic on Monday.

Henry confirmed 52 new cases of the virus since her last update on April 18, as well as five deaths.

She also said that seven residents who returned from the Kearl Lake oil sands project in northern Alberta had tested positive for COVID-19, and issued a new order requiring anyone who had visited the project since March 15 to self-isolate for 14 days upon their return to B.C.

As of April 20, 1,699 people had tested positive for COVID-19 in the province, while 1,039 had fully recovered. Eighty-six deaths have been reported, with 52 linked to long-term care or assisted living homes.
