Ontario's chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams provided an update on COVID-19 in the province and the ongoing efforts to combat the novel coronavirus.
On Monday, the province reports 370 new cases, bringing the total to 17,923 cases, and 84 additional deaths, which brings the death toll to 1,300. The province also reported 12,505 people had now recovered, representing 70 per cent of total confirmed cases.
Asked how close Ontario was to the “finish line” or the goal of being able to move to the next stage of reopening, Williams said Monday they have to look at several metrics to decide when to move to the next phase. He said this includes the overall transmission rate and the test positivity rate.
The province also saw 342,060 tests completed so far, up 14,555 tests from the day before. Ontario has a goal of 16,000 daily tests by May 6.
