Russian President Vladimir Putin said he believes a partial lockdown in his country has helped contain the spread and impact of COVID-19.

Putin made the comments during a televised broadcast on state television Monday, where he ordered residents to stay home to slow the spread of the virus.

“All measures necessary in this situation should be taken,” he said. “Even if those not involved in the problem consider them a bit excessive for Russia today.”
