Footage from this Tuesday shows the streets of Mexico City's historic centre bustling with activity after the reopening of shops and small businesses, as part of an economic recovery plan after weeks of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"I understand that the economy has to be re-established, but people still don't understand that they have to come with masks and with their eyes covered, and they walk like that, as if nothing had happened," said Amalia Salinas Martínez, a shopkeeper.
Footage shows the Museum of Fine Arts of Mexico and several streets of the historic centre, with some shoppers seen wearing masks and carrying out social distancing measures.
Mexican authorities have implemented an economic reopening plan that divides the historic center into different zones that will be allowed to serve the public alternately.
According to data collected by Johns Hopkins University, Mexico has recorded 220,657 cases of coronavirus with 27,121 deaths related to the disease.
