South Africa has recorded the biggest one-day COVID-19 spike so far. 7 210 people have tested positive for the virus, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the country to 131 800. Another 73 COVID-19-related fatalities have been reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 2 413.
41 more people have died in the Western Cape, bringing the region's death toll to 1 737. 17 in Gauteng, 13 from the Eastern Cape, and 3 from Kwazulu-Natal. Over 1.5 million tests have been carried out, of which nearly 35 000 were completed in the last 24-hour cycle.
