ECDPM joined forces with EIB, EBRD and EDFI to organise this online event on 11 September 2020 dedicated to Team Europe’s response to the recovery in emerging and developing economies, the response of European financial institutions to COVID-19 and their coordination initiatives.
The event focused on the European Commission’s recent proposals to strengthen existing and future external instruments, which will help development finance institutions to do even more, to address the healthcare crisis and the socio-economic challenges caused by the pandemic in emerging and developing economies.
Three specific topics were explored:
Team Europe: Partnerships for impact, cooperation and co-financing instruments (e.g. mutual reliance, European Financing Partners for COVID-19, European Bank Coordination ‘Vienna’ Initiative,…)
Countercyclical measures: Resources mobilisation, leveraging, guarantees, innovative approaches and engagements, the EU’s recovery package and the amended multiannual financial framework proposal (e.g. EFSD, NDICI), ensuring an effective EU development finance architecture.
Transformative agenda: Support climate action and digital transition, human development (education, health), food security, gender, reinforce resilience and address poverty gap.
Ms. Jutta Urpilainen, European Commissioner for International Partnerships
